PFC Leonard Nitzsche of RR, Ellis Grove, IL was drafted into the Army in August 1969. Leonard attended basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and AIT at Ft. Ord, CA. He was then sent to Vietnam. He arrived in Vietnam on Jan. 12, 1970 and turned 20 years old on Jan. 28th. He served with Company B, Second Battalion, 3rd Infantry, 199th Light Infantry Brigade. He was killed in action on April 8, 1970, 25 miles NE of Saigon Province-Long Khanh. Leonard was point man on a reconnaissance mission.
