POW/MIA Recognition Day Ceremony and Candlelight Vigil

On September 20, 2024, Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial (MNVM) held a moving Candlelight Vigil in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day. Veterans, families, and members of the community gathered in remembrance of prisoners of war (POW) and those missing in action (MIA). The vigil served as a heartfelt reminder that these brave souls are NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Each attendee was given a candle, creating a soft, glowing sea of lights symbolizing hope and the enduring bond of remembrance. The flickering candles stood as a beacon for those who could not be there to hold a light for themselves, representing every life affected by the uncertainty and sacrifice that come with service.

Families of POWs and MIAs stood shoulder to shoulder with Veterans and friends, all united in the promise to never forget those who have not returned home. The vigil also provided a chance for quiet reflection as a deep and powerful silence fell over the gathering, allowing everyone a moment to honor the courage of those service members who remain missing, and the sacrifices made by their families.

MNVM is steadfast in its commitment to honoring all who serve, especially those whose fates remain unknown. This annual POW/MIA Recognition Day Candlelight Vigil was a reminder of the importance of remembrance and unity. Through this gathering, veterans, families, and community members reaffirmed their promise to carry forward the memory of POW and MIA service members, ensuring that they are always a part of our nation’s story and our hearts.
